Eligibility for treatment and the amount to take are different questions. Dosing starts from the product’s approved schedule and is adjusted by a clinician considering response and tolerability. Do not calculate a dose in proportion to body weight or accelerate it yourself.
Separate treatment eligibility from dose selection
South Korean adult weight-management indications for Wegovy include initial BMI and weight-related conditions. These describe eligibility; starting doses and escalation are specified separately.[1]
Do not assume that a higher body weight calls for a higher starting dose, or add a dose because you have seen little change over a few days. The table below explains adult label examples; it is not your prescription.

Starting doses and intervals for selected products
Wegovy information allows consideration of delaying escalation or returning to the previous dose for significant gastrointestinal symptoms. Mounjaro information also considers response and tolerability.[1][3] A calendar date alone is not a reason to change your prescription yourself.
| Product | Starting dose | Escalation summary |
|---|---|---|
| Wegovy | 0.25 mg once weekly | Four-week steps through 0.5, 1.0 and 1.7 mg, then 2.4 mg maintenance [1] |
| Saxenda | 0.6 mg once daily | Increase by 0.6 mg at intervals of at least one week to 3.0 mg maintenance [2] |
| Mounjaro | 2.5 mg once weekly for four weeks | Then 5 mg. Further 2.5 mg increases after at least four weeks at the current dose; maximum 15 mg weekly [3] |
Milligrams, milliliters and pen markings mean different things
Milligrams describe the amount of active ingredient; milliliters describe liquid volume. Concentrations and devices differ. The South Korean Wegovy manufacturer warns that unapproved dose splitting can deliver an inaccurate amount.[4]
Do not construct a dose by counting dial sounds or assume that a larger milligram number means a stronger medicine across ingredients. Ask a pharmacist to explain unclear units using your actual product.
Records to bring to a dose discussion
- Actual recent dose dates and prescribed amounts.
- Onset and duration of nausea, vomiting, constipation or other difficulties.
- How much food and fluid you have been able to tolerate.
- Missed doses, treatment breaks and changes to other medicines. Consult your prescriber about restarting; this table is not a restart schedule.
Can a conversion chart tell me how to switch medicines?
mg measures ingredient amount; mL measures liquid volume. At different concentrations, equal volumes contain different amounts. FDA reports describe dosing errors from unit and concentration confusion with compounded semaglutide.[5] After a product change, do not reuse old markings or charts automatically.
A small check-in today
- Have you checked your prescribed dose and its units?
- Have you recorded symptoms and intake before discussing an increase?
- Have you told your clinician about any treatment break?
Frequently asked questions
Can I increase faster if weight loss is slow?
Do not increase independently. Your clinician must consider the product’s minimum intervals, response and symptoms.
Does maintenance always mean the highest dose?
Maintenance definitions and adjustment rules vary by product. Do not treat the highest number in this table as your personal target.
Can I switch Wegovy and Mounjaro at the same mg?
Their ingredients and approved dose schedules differ. Do not treat equal numbers as equivalent doses; discuss a switching prescription together with your last dose and current symptoms.
